When you get a tattoo removal in my Nottingham studio, as a tattoo removal expert, I will walk you through the most effective ways to feel great and make sure the recovery is as smooth as possible. For now, here’s a handy guide of ways that you can make sure that you’re performing the best tattoo removal aftercare steps at home, and ensure that your recovery is as easy as it can possibly be.
I use a top-of-the-range AW3 laser to ensure that your tattoo is removed effectively from my Nottingham studio. While tattoo ink particles are generally too big to be broken down by the body (which is why your tattoo is permanent), this system uses heat to break these down and make them more manageable for your body. This is why aftercare is so important. The body will begin to remove the ink, and I need to do as much as I can to aid it in this process.
There are a range of ways that you should be caring for your skin following a tattoo removal which can help reduce any unwanted after effects often associated with the procedure.
You should:
Put ice on the affected area – in the first 48 hours following a tattoo removal, ice is probably the best way to reduce swelling and minimise any discomfort that you might feel. I always tell my clients that ice is the best way to keep the area looking and feeling as good as it can.
Take off the dressing – after a few hours, either before a shower, before bed, or once the gel begins to seep through, remove the dressing! This will keep the area breathable and ensure a speedier recovery.
Apply cool water and pat your skin dry – without soap or any other supplement. While the tattoo is healing, it is recommended that you don’t put any lotions other than aloe vera onto it directly to keep it clear from infection.
Rest and elevate the affected area – if your tattoo were on an arm or leg, the best way to ensure a quick recovery is to use it as infrequently as possible and keep it elevated. This will help to keep any swelling and discomfort localised to the affected area and ensure that your recovery is as smooth as possible.
